In February of 2019, I had the honor of serving as Team Captain for one of seven business incubators around the country to participate in WIRED Magazine and Gentleman Jack’s annual sustainability competition, Pitch Distilled.
Over two months of grueling research and prototyping, our team put together a pitch for ‘Huckster’s Mobile Market’. This idea tackled a daunting question: How can Tallahassee ameliorate food insecurity and food waste at the same time?
In March of 2019, Huckster's Mobile Market won the national competition. The project received a grant of $10,000 and a profile in WIRED Magazine.
After conversations with community leaders, we developed a proposal for a vehicle that would distribute fresh ingredients directly to low-income communities. Our goal was to institute both a regular collection service for recovered foods, and an accessible delivery service for Tallahassee’s underserved neighborhoods.
