The Explore Tallahassee app creates a space for locals and visitors to discover hidden gems throughout Florida's capital city. Find your new favorite places, events, and participate in fun challenges to earn badges!
I worked as Lead UI/UX Designer and Illustrator on this project with Tallahassee-based software development company Grape Works Dev.
Initial stages of the project's planning included a logo and general style guide. For these I designed around a few core keywords: adventure, discovery, community, and fun. I also maintained a primary color focus - green - and aimed to include the imagery of “gems” into the app.
Slide One depicts the final logo concept. Slide Two shows a second iteration that ultimately was not chosen for the finished product.
Explore Tallahassee falls comfortably within the "Explorer" brand archetype. Every interaction we dreamed up for the app carried a pathos of approachability and friendliness, while a dark theme lent itself to intrigue. We took care to align design choices with Google's accessible Material Design framework.
The image below shows an abbreviated version of the style guide's key assets and elements.
The final step was to populate the app with fun, modern and dynamic illustrations - a tribute to Tallahassee's unforgettable personality. With the addition of a Splash screen, Explore Tallahassee includes 7 unique badge illustrations, 13 colored icons and header images for all specially curated in-app challenges.
